Google's Search Revolution

For over two decades, Google has been at the forefront of redefining the capabilities of a search engine, driven by the mission to organize the world’s information. This journey has been accompanied by continuous advancements in AI, enabling a deeper understanding of information in various forms.

In line with this evolution, Google has consistently made searching more natural and intuitive. Users can now search with their voice, camera using Lens, and even pose questions in a more natural way with the help of generative AI. As we enter 2024, Google is excited to introduce two major updates, Circle to Search and an AI-powered multi search experience, bringing us closer to a future where searching happens seamlessly, anywhere you want.

Circle to Search

Google introduces Circle to Search, allowing users to search on their Android phone screens without switching apps. A simple gesture—such as circling, highlighting, scribbling, or tapping—enables users to find information right where they are. This feature addresses the disruption caused when something piques interest, allowing users to search directly on their screen while texting, browsing social media, or watching a video. Circle to Search is set to launch globally on select premium Android smartphones on January 31, starting with the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and the new Samsung Galaxy S24 series.

Multisearch with AI Insights

Building on the success of multisearch in Lens, Google now enhances the experience by incorporating AI-powered insights. When users point their camera, upload a photo, or take a screenshot and ask a question using the Google app, the multi-search experience provides results with AI-powered insights that go beyond visual matches. This enables users to ask more complex or nuanced questions about what they see, receiving quick and comprehensive information. This feature is launching this week in English in the U.S., and it’s available for everyone without requiring enrollment in Search Labs.

Google continues to experiment boldly with generative AI in Search, seeking ways to make it radically more helpful. The recent launch of AI-powered insights for multisearch is a testament to this ongoing experimentation, with Google actively seeking user feedback. To try out the latest capabilities and contribute to shaping the future of Search, users are encouraged to enroll in Search Labs and opt into the Search Generative Experience (SGE) experiment. These updates mark a significant step toward a more natural and intuitive Search experience, with Google committed to uncovering the full potential of generative AI. The journey continues, and Google invites users to join Labs and be part of reimagining the future of Search.
